Great news from our climate education project: Climate Stories won an award in the “Acting Fairly” category at the 2026 Fairtrade Awards.
On 18 June, Fairtrade Awards were presented for the tenth time at the Wintergarten in Berlin. They are regarded as the leading awards recognizing outstanding commitment to fair trade. The ceremony was hosted by actress Anke Engelke and featured prominent presenters alongside many inspiring projects, companies, and initiatives.
For the Climate Stories team, it was a truly special evening: the project prevailed against strong competitors in the “Acting Fairly” category and brought the prestigious award back to Stuttgart.

Through Climate Stories, Fairventures has been bringing students in Germany together with young people from the Global South through digital exchanges since 2023. These young people, known as climate witnesses, share their personal experiences of the climate crisis in interactive workshops, as well as their commitment to climate action and their ideas for a more climate-just future.
In this way, the topic is not only explained but also brought to life. Students meet people, ask questions, listen, and develop a deeper understanding of how the climate crisis, global inequality, and fair trade are closely interconnected.
Mathias Schweikert, the project manager from Climate Stories, was delighted to receive the award: “For us, this award is above all a chance to give greater visibility to the voices of young people from the Global South, who are still far too rarely heard in the climate debate,” said Mathias Schweikert. “Their stories and perspectives show that climate justice can only be achieved through collaboration and dialogue.”

Tobias Schäfer added: “It is the young people who share their stories that make Climate Stories possible. The award encourages us to continue our work and to advocate climate justice together with them.”
Fairtrade Germany also emphasized the importance of collective action in the face of global crises during the evening. Claudia Brück, Member of the Executive Board for Communications and Policy at Fairtrade Germany, thanked everyone involved for demonstrating that “change is possible when we work together.”
For us, this award is not only a great recognition, but also a source of motivation. We want to continue developing Climate Stories, reach even more schools, and enable even more young people from the Global South to share their perspectives.
