Representatives and owners of two major timber producing companies from Peru and one from Indonesia took part in a guided tour to the trade fairs DOMOTEX in Hanover and BAU in Munich on the 19th and 20th of January, 2015. The German Import Promotion Desk (IPD) supported this activity by offering guided tours and pre-arranged meetings with fair exhibitors. The visitors could appreciate the latest trends, products and qualities in the technical wood sector.
For the companies Maderacre, Bozovich (from Peru) and Kayu Teak (from Indonesia) it was an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the demands of the German and European market and to establish new contacts with potential clients for their products.
Products of tropical timber e.g. flooring, decking, and cladding could be found on both fairs and visited companies showed interest in FSC-certified timber and timber products from Peru and Indonesia.
Although oak is still domineering the indoor flooring fashion, it was interesting to see the presentation of dark floors, either made from smoked or moor oak. But the hope that darker timber colors for flooring and furniture are gaining importance in the German and European market and thereby also increasing the demand for tropical timber species, is still low.
Participants of the guided tour confirmed that their expectations, to get to know potential customers’ demands, to make contacts and to get ideas to enter the overseas market, were surpassed.
