We want to make use of the benefits of digitalization to protect our environment and empower smallholders. This is why we are very happy that our project T³ is one of the lighthouse projects in this year’s Google.org Impact Challenge. The final step of the competition is a public vote. About our project
T³ – tree tracking technology is a platform that allows smallholders trough digitalization to become a part of global, sustainable value chains in the timber sector. With the camera of an ordinary smartphone, smallholders can register the volume of planted trees and receive a report on the financial value of their afforestation, management recommendations, and contacts with potential creditors. Furthermore, processing companies can communicate directly with the producers via an online marketplace and operate more efficiently. Other actors along the value chain, such as insurance companies and end consumers, can use this data to track timber products back to the field and receive information about the ecological benefits of the production. The technology creates added value for everyone involved. It contributes to a sustainable transformation of the economy, promotes biodiverse land use, supports the generation of income for disadvantaged people and contributes to mitigating climate change.
